A refreshing Kentucky Derby tradition with bourbon, fresh mint, and simple syrup served over crushed ice.

8 mint leaves, no stems

2 ounces bourbon

In a Julep cup or a rocks glass, muddle the mint leaves and simple syrup together to release the essential oil from the leaves. Do not crush the mint into small bits.

Pour in the bourbon and fill the glass with crushed ice.

Stir well, garnish with mint sprigs, and enjoy.
