01 -
Set the oven temperature to 175°C (350°F) to ensure proper baking environment.
02 -
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers, cooking for 4 minutes. Incorporate minced garlic and sauté an additional minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
03 -
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, yellow mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, shredded cheddar, salt, and pepper until homogeneous.
04 -
Gently fold crushed breadcrumbs followed by the cooled sautéed vegetables into the wet mixture. Add ground beef last and mix lightly to combine, avoiding overworking to maintain tenderness.
05 -
Divide the meat mixture evenly into four portions. Shape each portion into a loaf approximately 13 cm (5 inches) long and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet with edges to contain drippings. Prepare glaze by mixing ketchup and BBQ sauce, then brush half over each loaf.
06 -
Bake loaves for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully transfer each loaf to a fresh parchment-lined baking sheet to drain accumulated grease, using a spatula to avoid breaking.
07 -
Apply the remaining glaze evenly over each loaf. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 71°C (160°F).
08 -
Optionally brush a light layer of ketchup atop before serving. Ideal accompaniments include mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables or a garlic butter pasta.
