Preheat the oven to 190°C and grease a 23×33 cm (9×13 inch) baking dish.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Stir cream of mushroom or chicken soup and milk into the cooked beef mixture. Add frozen mixed vegetables if desired and mix well.

Spread beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 100 grams (1 cup) shredded cheddar cheese on top. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.

Bake uncovered for 30 minutes at 190°C.

Sprinkle remaining 100 grams shredded cheddar cheese on top and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
